TRECYCLE 20 is a single day cycling adventure of 50+ kilometers on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, 2020. This year's adventure is going to be close to home with regard to COVID-19 precautions. All 50 kilometers will be ridden less than 2 km from home without riding over the same path. A winding route through the neighborhood of Southeast Kettering will be the location of this effort to raise support for planting of 50 native trees at Mount Saint John, the home of the Bergamo Center.
The native trees to be planted are all from local collected species with lots of diversity (oaks - burr, black, red, pin, chinkapin, several hickory species - pignut, shagbark, shellbark, and beech and new species like persimmon, ohio buckeyes, and a few chestnuts. The April 22 TRECYCLE adventure will originate at my home at 5248 Coral Oak Circle. This will be a solo adventure this year to be safe. If others wish to ride all or even sections at another time at their own pace here is the Ride with GPS map here. Some have asked how they might help. Donations will be accepted and may be made in any amount, but there is one special suggested sponsorship option: $50 - sponsor one dollar per kilometer - Donors of $50 or more will receive one of two optional premiums - either a Picasso inspired "Bike Antlers" or an Ohio Star Quilt block. (These items are made of reclaimed materials so no new trees were harmed in the production of these gifts!) Donations may be sent directly to Brent Devitt at 5248 Coral Oak Circle, Kettering OH 45440 or find me on Venmo. Checks should be made out to Bergamo Center/Mount Saint John. In the memo line please put TRECYCLE 20 The funding goal of $500 will go a long way in planting as many seedlings at Mount Saint John as possible later this spring. All of the $500 in funding goes directly to plant trees and does not support other costs of the adventures. Any funds raised beyond the goal will help plant even more trees! Thank you.
